The De-Bikification of Beijing

BEIJING — Just a few years ago, the streets of Beijing were clogged with so many bicycles that riders sailing through an intersection looked like a school of fish moving through the water.Do you really need that cheaptruereligion you haven't worn in years, I mean who wants to dress like Ronnie from the Jersey Shore?

Today the cars have taken over. In fact, Beijing more and more is just another traffic-clogged city with Chinese characteristics. Its bike lanes are rapidly filling with parked cars, auto rickshaws spewing exhaust, and strolling pedestrians.

To many Chinese, bikes are now for losers. The iconic Beijing bicycle is a sorry one-gear affair with a metal basket on the front which breaks so regularly that every street corner seems to have a makeshift fix-it stand.

"There is a quote: ‘I would rather cry in a BMW than smile on a bike,'" says Jinhua Zhao, an urban planning professor at the University of British Columbia who's conducting a study of cycling in Beijing. He’s found that bicycle use in Beijing has dropped from about 60 percent in 1986 to 17 percent in 2010. At the same time, car use has grown 15 percent a year for the last ten years.

The loss of a bike culture is a shame, says Shannon Bufton, the Australian-born founder of an NGO called Smarter Than Car. "It’s like Venice and gondolas. They go together, Beijing and the bike," he says.

Bufton's solution? Transform the bicycle into a luxury item, like the Chanel bag, the Gucci shoes, and the Maserati car. That way, the Chinese would want to own and ride them to show they've reached the middle class.

Bufton notes that when he first started Smarter Than Car in 2010, “I gave a lot of lectures about sustainable cities and about how positive the bike was for society,” he says. “And the Chinese people said to me, ‘Well, yeah, we know that, but we just started getting interested in the car. We want to drive cars."

Before the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, government officials made 50,000 rental bikes available at kiosks around the city, in part to cut down on car traffic. That effort fizzled, although government curbs on the numbers of cars driving into the city – even today, shortwigs is a high top sneaker that comes in numerous color ups. most drivers are blocked from driving into Beijing one day a week – seems to have cut down somewhat on the total cars on the road.

Smarter Than Car organized its first Beijing Bike Week in March, setting up a post in a luxury shopping mall surrounded by Ferrari, Aston Martin, and Maserati car dealers. The group showed movies about biking, ran a bike polo match, and organized a kind of scavenger hunt on bikes called an alleycat race.

Bufton is even set to open a kind of café for cyclists, which he hopes will help foster a hip bike culture in the city.

There is one demographic in Beijing that Bufton doesn’t have to work as hard to convince. More foreign residents, tired of the difficulty of finding a cab, fighting the crowds on the subway and buses, or figuring out how to pass the test for a Chinese driver’s license, iwcwatchesshop clothing and wholesale urban wear apparel for all major brand names. are turning to bicycles. Expats, it turns out, love to wax rhapsodic about the romance of biking in Beijing. Peter Foster, a former Beijing correspondent for England’s Daily Telegraph, described in a 2009 article what he loved about riding a bike in Beijing:

You find a democratic mix in the cycle lane: the old guy puffing on his fag, barely turning the cranks; the expat-woman in a linen suit gliding serenely into Guo Mao (World Trade Centre); the tricycle affair loaded with tat for sale; the hung-over student with a mate on the back taking on the red lights.

Today Foster is based in Washington, D.C. The rapidly growing cycling culture there, he says by email, is still a far cry from Beijing, which he still misses.

"Not the pollution, or wearing a mask most days,For more detailed search information about ladiesshoes , but some of the local colour, the old guys with their birdcages dangling from the handlebars,What is the sum of an Air Max 360 If you did your arithmetic aright, then you should have said hublotreplica 247. the street vendors, the old couples where one pedals their three wheelers while the other, too lame with age, sits in the back," he writes. "By comparison D.C. is all clean and beautiful, but the view in front is also kind of sterile after Beijing - everyone is wearing helmets and swathed in flourescent yellow jackets.”

"A phone call from 250 thousand dollars so I invented the Louis Vuitton Cup "

He invented the cup with a phone call. Bruno Troublé, creator of the Louis Vuitton Cup, the former French sailor, came to Naples to follow the pre World Series races. Bata Shoe Museum to exhibit works of stiletto guru Roger Vivier

TORONTO - A Toronto museum says it will host the first North American exhibit dedicated to the work of Roger Vivier, the designer who brought the stiletto heel to the modern style masses.

The Bata Shoe Museum will unveil "Roger Vivier: Process to Perfection" on May 9.

The exhibit will centre around the working process of the famed shoemaker, including never-before-seen drawings.

The Bata Shoe Museum's Vivier holdings will be complemented by loans from institutions including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Deutsch Ledermuseum in Germany as well as the Roger Vivier brand.

The late French designer was known for the bejewelled and elegantly sculptural shoes crafted throughout his career.

Vivier's career first took flight in the 1950s when he became the shoe designer for Christian Dior.

Following Dior's death, he continued to create footwear for the famed French fashion house, but set out on his own in 1964.

Vivier has been credited for the modern-day invention of the ultra-thin stiletto heel, dating back to 1954. He has also been the creative force behind countless other innovative shoe designs such as needle and comma heels.

He is known for the metal-buckled pilgrim shoes popularized by French film legend Catherine Deneuve in "Belle de Jour," the thigh-high boots made famous by former screen siren Brigitte Bardot, and the reintroduction of the platform shoe.

Teen Girls Who Perform Exorcisms Have Reality Show in the Works?

The Rev. Bob Larson, appearing on Anderson Cooper's daytime talk show Wednesday, hinted at the possibility of a reality program focused on his team of teenage exorcists, while Cooper expressed doubts about the authenticity of Larson's work.

"Something about this I just don't buy," Cooper said to a chorus of applause from his "Anderson" audience. He then went further, providing detail for his doubt, saying of the three teenage girls, "You three seem coached, and you don't seem like you're really talking like real people to me."

The Rev. Bob Larson, of Spiritual Freedom Churches International, has been running a school and training program for exorcists in Scottsdale, Ariz., for years. He began the school because, as he told the Daily Mail, "The Church just can't keep up with the demand [for exorcists]." Larson has been having quite a bit of success, he said, telling the British publication, "Our phone lines are ringing constantly – we receive up to 1,000 individual requests monthly."

While Larson's program has both teenage and adult students, Larson told the Daily Mail, "We have found that our female, teenage exorcists are particularly effective at curing the possessed."

Now it appears that Larson is trying to give his school and teenaged exorcists a national audience with a reality show, although he insists it is not the case.

"Major press got this story, and then they started contacting us," Larson told Cooper. "We're not pitching anything, they're coming to us." Larson did not mention any specific network that may have expressed interest in developing his ministry into a reality show.

Fashion Celebration: Louboutin Exhibition

The first time I ever saw a pair of red soled Louboutins was as a teenager and they were gracing the feet of Sarah Jessica Parker as she navigated the streets of New York as sex columnist Carrie Bradshaw.  At the time I was more interested in Carrie's sexual exploits than her shoes.  Now, though, I would give almost anything to own a shiny pair of heels with the patent red sole.

Until then I can appreciate the artistry the oft coveted shoe which has graced the feet of many a celebrity at London's Design Museum.  The design museum is honouring Christian Louboutin with an exhibition celebrating his career and showcasing twenty years worth of designs.  The exhibition will showcase the designer's career by drawing on his own personal archive of shoes and design drawings and taking the visitor through the stages of the design journey – everything from original sketches, prototypes to the final product.  The origins of the iconic red sole will also be revealed along with Louboutin's creative approach and inspirations which include: Cabaret, fantasy and fairytale, film, landscape and travel.

The exhibition runs 1 May to 9 July at the Design Museum in London.

Adam Lambert, Katy Perry, Chris Colfer And More Get Down At Elton John's Oscar Viewing Party

The 20th annual Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party drew a decidedly younger crowd yesterday (February 26th), with a few screen and music legends thrown in for good measure.  Celebs including Chris Colfer, Ashley Fink, Katy Perry, Adam Lambert, Kim Kardashian, and a pregnant Kourtney Kardashian gathered at The City of West Hollywood Park for the bash, hosted by Sir Elton John and David Furnish.

Alessandra Ambrosio and Kardashian took an opportunity to pose together with their baby bumps, while Heidi Klum got down with her bad self in a canary yellow Atelier Versace mini and gold-tipped nude Christian Louboutin heels.

The Daily Mail reports that John personally invited Klum and fellow singletons Perry and Kardashian.  ”It was his idea to invite some of the highest profile, newly-single female celebs in town,' a source told the Daily Mirror.  ”He thinks it's a great way to put a smile back on their faces, and hopefully land them new men. He got in touch last month to personally offer Heidi and Katy his support, and invite them to his bash.”

The lookers from The Vampire Diaries - Ian Somerhalder, Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley and wife Torrey DeVitto -  made the party all the more attractive with their mere presence (damn you genetically gifted people!).

Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth enjoyed the party, which raised $5.25 million for the fight against HIV/AIDs, before heading over to Vanity Fair's A-List bash.

Cool for cats

Though the fashion world may at times be catty - All those fights over who sits in the front row at the shows! The perennial ''fashion victim'' lists! - it's arguably never been more so than it is now.

Literally.

Because this season, designers across the globe have made felines the latest fashion trend.

Victoria Beckham plastered a white cartoonish cat across a red crepe de chine tunic from her Spring/Summer 2012 range and Melbourne-based designer Lisa Gorman has a black-and-white cheetah trotting across a skirt, dress and top in her latest collection.

There's also a new range of swimsuits from Brisbane-based label We Are Handsome featuring a roaring snow leopard, a new Donna Wilson knit cushion in the shape of a tabby cat, and a snow-white jumper featuring a cat's face, out this month by cult American brand Opening Ceremony in collaboration with Glamour magazine.

Why felines? And why now?

We Are Handsome co-designer Jeremy Jules Somers says it might be a populist move, because everyone simply loves cats.

''You show me a person on the street who you show a picture of a lion or a tiger, and they go 'Nah, not for me'. There's something about them that resonates with [everyone]. They're so regal and they sort of command attention, and they're also very beautiful.''

Other designers cite personal reasons for their own contribution to the cat-chic trend.

Victoria Beckham has said that her print was inspired by an unrequited longing. ''I want a cat but David won't let me have one; he doesn't want them bringing mice into the house,'' she told The Guardian recently. ''He's a dog person.''

But why is it that certain animals enjoy a sartorial moment championed by marquee names at any given time - singer Katy Perry wore Beckham's cat dress to promote her recent appearance on Saturday Night Live - while others (like, says, pigs or cows) are left to snuffle around their traditional habitats (like kiddie clothes and Royal Dalton plates)?

After all, this isn't the first time an animal-of-the-moment has taken the fashion and design world by storm.

Two years ago it was the fox that was splashed on everything from greeting cards to lamps and jumpers, and in 2006 the squirrel was it, slapped on everything from a Fendi brooch to DSquared jeans. Before them, butterflies, owls and deers each had a moment in the sun.

''It's funny how there's sort of a group consciousness floating around that no one's really aware of until it precipitates [a trend],'' says Lisa Gorman, whose cheetah print came about after she designed a print that ''looked mountainous but needed another layer of interest''.

''Sometimes you see it, and get feelings for it [certain animals or graphics] but you don't remember where they were from. [And there's] an accumulation of seeing or getting inspiration a few times before it compounds enough for you to go, 'I like that; that's the direction I want to work in'.''

Gorman's not wrong about the fact that cats started seeping into the fashion ether a year or so ago.

Star shoe maker Christian Louboutin put out a caramel-coloured lion shoe - complete with a paw-shaped toe - last year. And We Are Handsome has put out swimsuits with big cats splashed across them for the last two and a half years, earning its first big media hit in 2010 when singer Rihanna was snapped wearing the ''Amazon'' one-piece, which featured a roaring lionesse.

Also, it's just possible that the trend might reflect a concern that the fashion industry is becoming - yes - too catty.

As movie star Jessica Alba told the NY Daily News this month, she chose her latest stylist, reality television star Brad Goreski, almost purely because he isn't bitchy.

"I like someone who's not, like, catty,'' said Alba. ''Not a bad thing comes out of his mouth about anyone.

''In fashion, people tend to be competitive. They start saying nasty things and I don't want that energy around me or my children.''

POLICE are appealing for witnesses and information following a robbery at the Teville Gate car park in Worthing.

At around 7.30pm on Monday, February 13, the 17-year-old victim was walking home from the railway station, through the underpass of Teville Gate car park when he was approached from behind by two men who threatened him and asked for his mobile phone.

They also tried to pull his rucksack from him. The victim shouted for help and the suspects ran off in the direction of Morrisons. The thieves stole a small amount of cash and some keys.

The two suspects are described as black, aged 17 to 18 years, and of average build. One of them was wearing light blue tracksuit bottoms and a dark blue hooded top and Nike Air Max trainers.

Before Jeremy Lin: Asian athletes abound in pro sports

Before Jeremy Lin, there was Yao Ming.

In fact, Asian athletes are well placed and successful in sports across North America. The Houston Rockets drafted the Chinese-born Yao first overall in 2002, becoming an all-star eight times before injuries forced him to retire last season.

His success in the NBA led to as much off-court success, including a documentary film, Super Bowl commercial with Yogi Berra and some fast-talking New Yorkers (Yo, Yao, Yogi…) and a starring role in Beijing's 2008 Summer Olympics opening ceremony.

Maybe that's why it seems Yao spotted Lin's talents long before he became a media darling for the New York Knicks. Lin was part of the Yao Ming Foundation's 2010 tour of Taipei, and the two remain fast friends.

“I talk to Yao after every game,” Lin told ESPN. “He's taken me out to eat every time we're in the same city. He's obviously a role model and a big brother and mentor to me. We keep in touch all the time.”

Yao is probably preparing Lin for the pressure of representing an entire culture. Yao's success led to the Milwaukee Bucks drafting his Chinese Olympic teammate, Yi Jianlian. When the two played each other the first time in 2008, an estimated 200 million people in China watched on TV.

A few other Asian superstars could probably offer Lin some advice, too.

HOCKEY

You can thank Canada's multicultural influence for this, because players of Asian ancestry abound in professional hockey.

The most accomplished is Paul Kariya, a bona fide NHL superstar who played 15 seasons with Anaheim, Colorado, Nashville and St. Louis before injuries knocked him from the game. He averaged a point per game in his career (a rare accomplishment) and twice earned the league's most sportsmanlike player award.

Kariya's heritage sparked an international following when he arrived in Japan with Team Canada for the 1998 Nagano Olympics.

“There's not a lot of hockey in Japan, but they know the game,” Japanese coach Dave King told Sports Illustrated then. “The Japanese see themselves in Paul. He's 5'11", not 6'3". He's skilled and courageous. His presence in Nagano could motivate a lot of Japanese kids to play the sport.”

Today, Minnesota's Devin Setoguchi and Manny Malhotra of the Vancouver Canucks are important players to their teams. Setoguchi is half-Yonsei and a fourth-generation Japanese-Canadian. He's perhaps one of the league's top young stars, too. Malhotra has played for 12 seasons. He was born to a French-Canadian mother and his father is from Punjab, India.

FOOTBALL

Perhaps most people recognize Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward for his winning turn on Dancing with the Stars, an ABC reality-TV standard.

However, Ward has twice won a Super Bowl, is a former championship MVP and holds numerous team records. Ward's father – an African-American GI – abandoned the family when Ward was 2 years old after moving the family to Georgia. His mother didn't speak English, and Ward didn't fit into black, white or Asian circles.

His mother, Kim Young He, was an outcast in South Korea, but their return there in 2005 created a media frenzy. His success in the NFL even spurred democratic change in the country, and the president at the time introduced legislation to protect the rights of biracial South Koreans.

“I really want to raise some awareness about this issue," Ward said in a Sports Illustrated feature story. “I'm not here to change laws. But I want to shed light on (the treatment of) biracial kids, or maybe change a person's mind who is borderline, make people look differently at a mixed-race kid because of what they've seen me accomplish.”

His fame will no doubt continue to rise, with a cameo in The Dark Knight Rises this summer.

BASEBALL

The Asian influence in Major League Baseball is longstanding. The sport's popularity is truly global, and the Japanese professional league is considered the best outside North America.

Because of their passion for baseball – introduced by American GIs stationed overseas after the Second World War – Japanese and Korean players routinely land on American soil, and none has reached greater heights than Ichiro Suzuki has.

He's a former rookie of the year, MVP and holds numerous team and league records with the Seattle Mariners.

“When I look at the records and see where my place in the history of the game might be, I guess you could say it was a good decision to come here,” he told the Seattle Post-Intelligencer in 2004. “It's not just me. Maybe I'll have an effect on others in the international part of the game.”

Many credit pitcher Hideo Nomo for triggering a wave of Japanese players in the big leagues. He arrived in 1995, won rookie of the year honors and went on to pitch two no-hitters in his career. The hype was so high, Nike created the Air Max Nomo and his games were broadcast in Japan.

GOLF

Many credit Tiger Woods for breaking down racial divides in golf, making the country club sport relatable to African Americans. However, his influence in Asia is even greater.

His mother is of Thai-Chinese-Dutch ancestry, and his father is a blend of African American, Chinese and Native American.

When Woods first arrived in China a decade ago, the country's most affluent paid $80,000 to play alongside him. Feng Delin paid $30,000 for his daughter, Cindy, to play two holes with Woods.

She's now a budding superstar in the US.

“Tiger's China trip changed my daughter's life,” Delin said in an ESPN article. “Lots of kids from her generation took the path of golf all because Tiger came to China and introduced the game to the Chinese people.”

Michelle Wie had as much influence on young girls when at 16 she turned pro. Hawaiian-born to Korean parents, Wie attempted to play with men before finally winning her first tournament on the women's tour.

She earned as much attention for her Nike endorsements and her attitude as her golf, but she's shaping into an accomplished professional after two career wins. She's still only 22.

“She's probably going to influence the golfing scene as much as Tiger, or more,” Arnold Palmer said, according to The Baltimore Sun. “She's going to attract people that even Tiger didn't attract, young people, both boys and girls, and families.”

Fort Drum soldier delivers his own son

He may not be running in and out of phone booths or reporting for the Daily Planet anytime soon, but newborn Kal-El Williams has an origin befitting someone named after the comic book hero Superman: He was delivered by his father, Sgt. 1st Class Antwan M. Williams, on the side of the road in Carthage the night of Feb. 2.

Sgt. Williams had been driving his wife, Andrea A. Williams, to Carthage Area Hospital from their home on Fort Drum.

While Mrs. Williams had felt some contractions previously, she called it a normal day to that point, and even had gone to work at the post's Education Center, where she is a counselor. However, her contractions began to speed up rapidly around 9:30 p.m., at which point she knew the baby was coming.

As the Williamses hurried down Route 26 toward the hospital in their Ford Expedition, the contractions came even faster. About 3? miles from the hospital, Mrs. Williams told her husband that her water had broken, and the baby's head had emerged. At that point, he pulled over, turned on the SUV's hazard lights and rushed around the vehicle to his wife's seat on the passenger side.

“I put my hand under his head, and lifted him up just a little bit, and he shot right out,” Sgt. Williams said Friday. “He jumped out like Superman.”

Wrapping up the baby in a towel left on the dashboard, Sgt. Williams, a member of the post's MEDDAC unit, placed the baby on his wife's chest. He then tied off the umbilical cord using a shoelace from the Nike Air Max sneakers he was wearing that night.

Born at 11:06 p.m., Kal-El was a healthy 8 pounds, 7 ounces.

While Superman often was referred to in the comic books by his alter-ego, Clark Kent, his original name was Kal-El, which he received on the planet of Krypton before coming to Earth.

The Williamses had talked previously about their fondness for the name if they ever were to have a boy, but they had been sure they weren't having any more children. The Georgia natives, who have been married for 13 years, have three daughters: Brooklyn, 13, Jazzlyn, 10, and Londyn, 2.

“We're not picking any more names,” Mrs. Williams joked Friday.

Mrs. Williams said she was proud of her husband's ability to stay calm during the delivery. She said that while they were getting ready to leave for the hospital, he had run around like “a chicken with his head cut off.” That changed when the pair pulled to the side of the road.

“He didn't panic. ... It was something you'd see out of ‘MacGyver.' It was on cue; he knew what to do,” Mrs. Williams said. “I've never seen that side of him.”

Sgt. Williams said he considered the delivery “one of my proudest moments,” but said he might embellish the story in the future. “I will change it up a little bit, and tell him he was born in a blizzard and stuff like that,” he said.

Mrs. Williams, who said she grew up in a house with girls and is raising three daughters, called having a son a new experience.

Looking at his wife, Mr. Williams smiled and lowered his voice. “Don't worry. ... I got it,” he said.

Nike Air Foamposite One 'Galaxy'

The popularity of sneakers goes in cycles. At one point it was all about Air Force 1s, and Air Max 95s had a good run (both still classics, in the proper color).  Right now, retro Jordans and LeBron signature models rule but another sneaker currently reigning supreme is the Nike Air Foamposite. Washington, DC and "uh-rea" heads stayed rocking Foams early and if you take a walk around any hood in NYC, you should be wondering how all these kids got multiple pairs of kicks that cost $220 a pop.

So needless to say when the 'Galaxy' colorway of Penny Hardaway's signature shoe drops, the potential for anarchy during sneaker lines up is very real. The show is inspired by NASA and space, since the NBA All-Star game is in Orlando. Let's keep it civil, and avoid incidents like these, when they release on February 24, cool?

Visitors from mainland China: Taiwan "shopping" Experience

The continental News / roundup Came to Taiwan, only know a very attractive food, beauty, to a period of time, it was found to slowly Taiwan's shopping environment is so "superior" - not only the types of goods, prices of many imported goods mainland to be favorable, more importantly, malls, department stores, shop, service is very warm, very patient, so that we truly feel as a consumer to be respected and taken seriously.Girls as a passion for shopping, I came up with some experience, be regarded as a "shopping experience", but also ready to Taiwan's "illustrious" some small revelation., Looked at the website of the Taiwan Island to go to Taiwan, which the Raiders are very full, the longest a Raiders actually put more than 70 pictures, see my eyes are spent, which also have to go to Taiwan for the relevant process for the first time to go pro or helpful.Tip1: what to buy?

In Taiwan cheap this problem, an interesting statement is "cheap stuff mainland, Taiwan expensive; mainland expensive things cheap".Indeed, from the diet and basic living supplies, Taiwan, especially Taipei's cost of living is higher than the vast majority of mainland cities. But in Taiwan there is something cheaper than the mainland, for example, skin care products of the girls and boys athletic shoes.

May be competitive reasons, choose skin care products and makeup to the rich than on the mainland and more can be said that some brands of the mainland, Taiwan basically, brand and mainland China, Taiwan, there are many.Japanese products, in some open-shelf drug store, carrying a small basket, turn down, there will be a lot of windfall. In addition to selecting more, the price is an important factor for Taiwan's cosmetics prices average 20 percent to 30 percent cheaper than the mainland, if you run into special packages, and some even cheaper by almost half. For example, the magnetic field cream of young girls love Clinique CLINIQUE water prices on the mainland is the people 450 yuan / 50ml, Taiwan, the price is NT $ 1500/75ml about RMB three hundred something cheaper by a third capacity has increased by half, students with certain words "cheap white pick. However, skin care products and the like should be girls "good heart" boys in addition to the gift to his girlfriend and mother of these things have nothing interested. But the boys also have their own unique preferences, this is the brand-name sports shoes.Such as NIKE, ADIDAS, this kind of brand sports shoes, Taiwan and the mainland price difference of about 30%, such as NIKE new AIR MAX series running shoes, the price of the mainland takes about six hundred to seven hundred yuan in Taiwan only need 2,000 currency, amounting to over four hundred. In this difference, buy forty-five pair of shoes will not news.

Tip2: Where to buy?

Taiwan's main shopping into three categories: department stores, night markets and other shops.

When it comes to department stores, big leaf Takashimaya Tienmu district, sogo Tianmu, Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Tianmu; sogo Chung Hau Chung Hsiao East Road, Fuxing Store, Breeze Center; Xinyi District 101, New York, New York, and very "spectacular" Shin Kong Mitsukoshi (air corridor together more than a dozen Hall).Of course, there are many other shopping centers here is not to enumerate.Promotions on the mall, to recommend a sitewww.fashionguide.com.tw, Inside the "intelligence / discount" to collect the latest activities of the major shopping malls DM, can be viewed online.

The night market is an indispensable part of Taiwan culture, for example, the Shihlin night market, the mansion the night market, Huaxi Street Night Market.Filed a night market, we think most of the snacks, in fact, at the night market is able to fully release the desire to buy. Both young people in the night market like NIKE, LEVI'S store, roadside stalls, the start of hundred NT T-shirt and the audience of 49 yuan jewelry, not only meet all the beauty of the desire, letting purse Buzhi Yu "very hurt", are quite popular among our students welcome.

And other shops, including a fifth of the "legend" of the shop, and a number of individual shops.Fifth of the shop to buy things is the very test of eyesight, one hundred one's clothes may not be able to try on, looking at the right money, inappropriate left; shuttle between the shop and the flow of patience is also a challenge. However, as long as Amoy good merchandise, usually re-weak girls are full of "combat effectiveness.Individual shops scattered in the streets to sell some sense of design products, stroll slowly to look over there will be unexpected harvest.

Tip3 when to buy?

Mall activities in Taiwan, the main Mother's Day "in the first half and second half of the anniversary, the business will exit very favorable activity in these two slots, some goods or even kill three fold.A few days before the general shopping activity related to favorable information will have been "released", this is the need is good to do at the end.One this time, the bedroom can often see a few girls around the front of the computer side of the study, while talking, while seriously taking notes of what to buy, while boys will sigh, "Alas, if we discuss academic issues so enthusiasm nice ".

In addition to Mother's Day "and" anniversary ", businesses will from time to time in various" reasons "to exit deals, such as" Woman's Day "," Ching Ming Festival, Dragon Boat Festival and even "Spring Days" welcome summer "welcome autumn, short business for promotional purposes, will seize the opportunity of all to pay close attention to, and we in the business" tender trap "in" occupied ".

Discount schedule, the sale will be also very attractive, many shopping centers have a special sale market, and from time to time there will be a new sale activities. At the sale, NT $ 1,500 to buy two of LEE jeans has become possible.

In addition, many stores will be launched at the end of the quarter some concessions to send small gifts, while others are real discount. In short words - Street often visit!

Tip4 other

On the card, the majority of shopping credit card, mainland China UnionPay Card in Taiwan, there is no way to use more feasible, "VISA" or "MASTER" credit card, most banks in mainland dual currency cards are the two.

Tax rebates, according to the provisions of the Taiwan Ministry of Finance, in particular businesses (usually large mall department store) to purchase three thousand NT dollars to the tax refund. It should be noted that, can only be purchased before leaving the country within one month rebate, valid ID (for us into the Taiwan Securities) for refunds at the mall, the final tax refund is the exit customs receive .

Mail, we did not thought about this problem as more and more things to buy, plus one on the books of the materials ultimately have to take back, we finally realized that the "harsh reality" - to bring back something going to be heavier than its own weight have mail! Many of the types of things we need to return to the relatively safe and affordable way to post office parcel.Post office parcel is divided into land and sea, air and courier, of course, price and speed is inversely proportional to the specific price can go to school, post office advisory staff (they are very warm), you can get a price list, and then according to their own asked to select the mode of transport.

Summary:

Taiwan to study a semester, we will not only gain a new knowledge and learning methods, and know a lot of the attainments profound teachers and friendly students, there are a lot of new experience in life.Taiwan's shopping experience is very interesting, I think for many years, we recalled the life of this student in Taiwan, in addition to the classical Wen campus, the beautiful Yangmingshan, magnificent Taroko Gorge and romantic Kenting, we must will not forget Mother's Day "crazy" shopping ", looked at DM excitement about the boys help girls a box, a box of" booty "came through the post office to mail the scene.

Go back to think of this bit by bit, full of sadness, full of moving. But I think, from Nanjing to Taipei, separated by only a shallow strait, in the near future, we come back, back to the familiar text of the campus to see a familiar teacher, students to see former quarters, and then continue our shopping "great cause".

Susan G. Komen Foundation Stops Giving Money to Planned Parenthood

In response to the news today that the Susan G Komen foundation has ended their financial grant contributions of nearly $700,000 annually to abortion chain Planned Parenthood, Live Action President Lila Rose made the following statement:

"We applaud Susan G. Komen for its pro-woman decision to end their financial support of Planned Parenthood, the nation's biggest abortion chain. After a slew of scandals at Planned Parenthood, and the opening of a Congressional investigation, Komen is wise to distance itself from the corrupt abortion giant. In just the last year, Live Action's undercover footage revealed Planned Parenthood workers in 7 clinics aiding and abetting the sex trafficking of young girls, and Planned Parenthood falsely claiming they provide mammograms to women. In reality, our undercover investigation revealed that not a single Planned Parenthood clinic even has the equipment to do a mammogram. Komen realizes that their money to detect, prevent, and cure breast cancer is better spent elsewhere.

"Planned Parenthood misleads women and the public about the services they provide; but it is clear that behind a thin veneer of 'preventative services,' their real focus is abortion. In just the last year, Planned Parenthood was the leading abortion chain in the world, committing over 300,000 abortions, which now account for over 40% of its clinic revenue. Together we stand with Komen and reject Planned Parenthoods corruption and extreme abortion-first ideology."

   8. Cole Haan loafers with Nike technology – comfortable shoes while at CES are a must. Spending several hours walking and sometimes running to catch celebrities, comfy shoes are critical.

And the bigger question: what products will be the big newsmakers coming out of CES 2012?

Coming Attractions: Nike Air Max 2012

All things considered, the Air Max 2011 counts as my favorite sneaker of the past year. It wasn't high on my list to acquire at any point and I only ended copping them when I was forced to find something during a Friends and Family sale. But after I got home and tried them on my feet smiled. Lightweight with supreme comfort is always a winning combo, leaving me to wonder what Nike would do with the Air Max 2012.

The Air Max 2012 doesn't stray too far away from the template laid out by the 2009 incarnation, but the layered Hyperfuse and mesh upper make nice use of advancements in technology that Nike has made over the past few years. How they fare for actual running activities is up in the air, but all I need them to do is hold up for an extended day on my feet and I'm confident they'll do just fine for that. The best part about the three pairs seen here, which drop in February, is showing a brief glimpse of the colorways the Air Max 2012 can bring to us.

Nike Air Max 2012 'Mango'

The Nike Air Max+ 2012's Hyperfuse construction allows for unprecedented blending as in the case of the bold red/Volt pair or that cotton candy-looking WMNS drop we previewed a couple weeks back, or you can go in a different direction and make everything opaque while still emphasizing the shoe's layered build.  This new Air Max 2012 comes through with two tones of grey serving as the backdrop for a mango orange top layer that finds its exuberant shade reflected on the full-length Max Air cushion.  As with the aforementioned translucent designs, this new mango AM2012 sets the bar for the more traditionally colorblocked end of the spectrum, which means all that's left is for a pair or two to offer some full transparency.  Would you want clear running shoes, or did Nike get it right with an opaque range to compliment the blended pairs?  Let us know what you think about all the upcoming Air Max 2012 colorways after the jump and stick with Sneaker News for the US release dates.  via Sneaker Freaker

Nike Air Max Barkley Vac Tech “Sixers”

Seems like old kicks and new tech is becoming a recurring theme for Nike as of late. Dont get me wrong, we aren't complaining, simply stating the obvious. The latest shoe to get the highly coveted Vac Tech treatment is a gem from 94′ by Nike and Sir Charles. The Nike Air Max Barkley has always been a highly sought after shoe and this updated version wont be any different.

If you remember earlier this year Nike announced upgrades to the Air Max Barkley, most notably the upper nubuck straps being revised to a more modern synthetic leather upper. The shoe features the Philadelphia 76ers color scheme of white with red and blue accents, reminiscent of Barkley's glory days with the “Sixers.” Take a closer look at Nike Air Max Barkley Vac Tech ”Sixers.” They retail for $130 USD and are now available at select Nike accounts including Premier.

the kind of personal material that Spielberg always seems eager to explore. In the Wells novel, the protagonist is a single man, a “moral philosopher.” In the Spielberg version, he becomes a divorced, blue-collar crane operator with two children. Spielberg's version shows the protagonist experiencing a significant character arc. He changes from an inattentive father who is estranged from his children to one who is passionately connected to them and will do anything to protect them. In other words, he seems to change from an “Arnold Spielberg” sort of father into the kind of child-centered and heroic father that Steven Spielberg much prefers. Spielberg has described his film as a highly personal story that focuses on character.

It may seem odd to describe a story about an invasion of monstrous aliens in this way, but for Spielberg “this one was 100 percent character.” Whereas Minority Report was “fifty percent character and fifty percent very complicated storytelling with layers and layers of murder mystery and plot,” 14 Gary Arms and Thomas Riley War nike air max 90 of the Worlds was “a character journey.”15 It is revealing that Spielberg thinks in these terms of this big-budget action spectacular with its explosions and giant tripods. He has made hi cheap nike air max 90 s “big” film into a “big-little” film, one that combines spectacular scenes full of violence and horror with a number of “small,” intimate scenes that focus on realistic fami nike air max shoes ly drama. In their script for War of the Worlds, Josh Friedman and David Koepp departed from the source material by adding children and a divorced father; it is this inclusion of the broken family that gave Spielberg a way into the material.

Ray, the character played by Tom Cruise, has a young daughter Rachel, played by Dakota Fanning. Fanning was the hot child actor at the time War of the Worlds was being cast, and she is used in the film primarily to demonstrate fear and vulnerability. She is the child who loves her father, the daughter who desperately needs his help. The young actress has enormous eyes that seem easily to fill with glistening tears; she can scream so loudly and shrilly one might expect her voice to shatter windows. Fanning is an instinctive actress with a startling range of expression, but for the most part Spielberg uses her in this fairly simple way—to register extreme fear. This is similar to the manner in which he used another girl actress, Ariana Richards, in his super-hit Jurassic Park. In both of these films, the actresses give fathers or father-types an opportunity to save them from great danger.

women nike air max It is Ray's son Robbie (Justin Chatwin) who seems to remain like the young version of Spielberg (or like Steven's preoccupied father). Like the protagonist of Close Encounters, after the invasion of space aliens the young man becomes obsessed. Robbie is appalled by the destructive deeds of the monsters and their tripods. The entire human species seems on the verge of being ruthlessly dominated and exploited, even exterminated. He has to help his fellow human beings even if it means leaving behind his family, his dad and little sister. When he encounters an army attempting to fight back against the aliens, he tries to join it by hitching a ride. Realizing her big brother is eager to abandon her, Rachel shoves him hard and cries, “Who is going to take care of me?!” Robbie stays with his father and sister for a while longer, but eventually the young man responds to a higher calling and has to leave them. He seems to love his little sister, but cannot resist the chance to fight the monsters. For Robbie, the twin calls of adventure and duty to his country are irresistible. The two children are important in the film, but the central emotional journey portrayed in War of the Worlds is that taken by Ray. In some ways, Tom Cruise seems an odd choice fo nike air max shoes r this character, since he ha nike air max 1 rdly seems like a blue-collar worker. It is even harder to take the perpetually boyish Cruise seriously as a father, but that is the point. He seems immature and The “Big-Little” Film and Philosophy 15 self-absorbed. We quickly assume his immaturity explains why he has lost his wife to a more mature and financially successful man. This new husband even seems to be a better father and provider than Ray; the children are obviously fond of the man and are not at all eager to spend a weekend with Ray. It is easy to see why the children do not trust their father, because Ray seems barely prepared to care for them. He has almost cheap air max no food in the house and seems unable to cook. The kitchen is occupied by a disassembled car engine. His only way to entertain his alienated son is to drag him into the tiny back yard and force him to play catch. There is so much rivalry and bad blood between the son and the father that the boy Robbie can barely manage to be polite to Ray. The antagonism between them is symbolized by the fact that Robbie wears a Red Sox cap in pointed contrast to his father's Yankees cap. Robbie challenges his father at every opportunity. The son is nearly grown, and yet Ray barely knows who he is. For a father, Ray is oddly unfamiliar with basic health questions involving his children. When Rachel rejects the sandwich he fixes her and explains she has an allergy to peanut butter, Ray responds, “Since whe nike air max shoes n?” Rachel replies, “Since b nike air max 97 irth!” One could describe the rest of the film as a quest in which an incompetent father tries desperately to return his children to their mother, but by doing so finally becomes a “true father,” one who will risk his own life to save his children from harm. Once Ray transforms into a heroic and caring father, the role of the family-deserting “Arnold-type father” is taken up by his son, who is determined to fight the aliens even if it means abandoning his father and sister. When Ray realizes his son is bent on joining the resistance, he does all he can to keep Robbie part of their little family. In one of the film's more powerful scenes, we see Ray tackle Robbie and violently hold him on the ground. Ray is literally lying on top of the boy while the son is begging his father to please let him go. In this scene, Ray is terribly torn, faced with a “Sophie's Choice” decision. Another man and woman find Rachel all alone and try to take her away with them. Ray must give up one of his children or risk losing both of them. He chooses to protect Rachel, his most vulnerable child, and watches Robbie run away to join the military. We see the extreme of Ray's devotion to Rachel in the scene in nike air max 180 the basement, when they encounter the crazy, maniacal character Harlan Ogilvy (brilliantly played by Tim Robbins). This character seems a more extreme version of Robbie: he is obsessed with the desire to fi nike air max 95 ght back against the alien invaders and is dangerously reckless. Ogilvy's hatred of the aliens is

Louisville shoppers come out for post-Christmas deals

Sarah Davenport of Shepherdsville represented both sides of the day-after-Christmas shopping equation as she stood in a checkout line at Macy's in Jefferson Mall on Monday morning.

“I am returning some slippers that didn't fit and redeeming a gift card that I got for Christmas,” she said.

In the process, she took advantage of some of the many sales being offered.

“This is only 20 bucks, I think it's like 50 percent off,” Davenport said as she held up a body wrap blanket. “This is going to be a Christmas gift next year.”

Then there was the hair trimmer Davenport found at fifty percent off. “This is going to be a birthday gift,” she said.

Retailers typically offer post-Christmas deals to move merchandise left over from the holiday rush.

“Inventory is never a bigger concern for retailers than the last week of the year, which makes it one of the best times all year for us, as consumers, to shop,” said Brad Wilson, founder of BradsDeals.com. “I expect significant discounting on select products.”

Kris Smith, 17, of Louisville said the day was all about the bargains. “For 10 years, every day after Christmas I go to the mall ... for the sales because there's a whole lot of discounts going on in the stores,” he said while seated in the Jefferson Mall food court.

One such bargain was a pair of Nike Air Max shoes. “They're normally like $140 or $150, but it was $119 today,” he said.

His friend Tyler Grant, 18, was returning gifts and bargain hunting. “I brought back some jeans and a sweater because my parents got the wrong size,” Grant said.

He too bought a pair of athletic shoes on sale.

Haley Ancona, 17, of the Audubon Park area was accompanied by her mother, Laura Ancona, as she sought to spend $150 in Christmas loot. “I got a skirt and I got belly rings and ...,” she said, hesitating.

“She went to Victoria's Secret,” her mother chimed in.

Final sales numbers for the holiday shopping season won't be out until Jan. 12.

But estimates of both in-store and online retail sales suggest shoppers ignored many of the lingering economic warning signs. Higher prices played a role as well.

The National Retail Federation on Dec. 15 raised its estimate for holiday sales to a 3.8 percent increase from 2010 — a full percentage point above its previous 2.8 percent estimate — buoyed by the strong sales in October and November, especially for the Thanksgiving weekend.

Online sales for December will be up about 10 percent over December 2010, IBM Smarter Commerce estimated based on its analysis of transactions on 500 retail sites.

Amar'e Stoudemire Takes LeBron James Challenge, Films Sheets Commercial

Last week, LeBron James challenged people to participate in a contest to film and submit a video for Sheets, an energy-boost product that dissolves on your tongue. Among those who took the challenge – Amar'e Stoudemire of the New York Knicks.

Like James, who co-founded the brand, Stoudemire has a vested interest in and is an endorser of the product.

James himself jump-started the contest by writing and directing his own Sheets 30-second spot. The contest, being anchored on a dedicated Facebook page, is dangling a top prize of having the winning commercial aired nationally on TV and movie screen next year.

In a spot that he wrote and directed, "Undercover," Stoudemire masquerades as an employee for a Duane Reade drug store in New York. As "Steven," he entices customers to purchase Sheets. Behind the counter, he's almost busted by the first guy, who notices a strong similarity between Steven and a photo of Stoudemire on a Sheets display.

"You're Amar'e," the guy insists. "No, I'm Steven," Stoudemire replies. Then, pointing to his picture on the counter display, Stoudemire says, "That's a different guy. But he's also handsome."

Next, a real Duane Reade employ starts to get wise to his ruse. "Do you have any cashier experience?" she asks Stoudemire. "No," he replies with a straight face, "but I'm pretty familiar with cash." She ultimately becomes part of the scheme and helps Stoudemire with his task. (See the full spot here.)

The spot is similar in theme to an ad Stoudemire recently filmed for Foot Locker in which he masquerades as an employee to sell his Nike Air Max Sweep kicks.

For the Sheets contest, consumers are asked to submit videos now through Jan. 31, 2012, that are "15-30 seconds long and demonstrate originality, creativity and humor." The top six spots as determined by the most number of "likes" will be featured on the Sheets Facebook page in the "Finals." James and a panel of judges will vote on the winning commercial.

The effort is being handled in conjunction with NCM Media Networks' FirstLook entertainment and cinema advertising pre-show program, which is seen theaters including those owned by AMC Entertainment, Cinemark and Regal Entertainment.

Nike Air Max 2012 Pink/Blue-White is bubblicious

The Nike Air Max 2012 preview continues with this Pink/Blue-White colorway that would have made Crockett and Tubbs cry in joy.  This retro-inspired look is great for drawing attention to your 80s workout music video tributes on Youtube or for being the guy (or girl) with the most self-confidence to rock these while going for a morning run.  And Hyperfuse panels that overlap turn to purple for even more saccharin goodness that would make even Lisa Frank think twice.

No firm release date has been given for this unique pair of kicks, but you can check back here for more updates.  I do have a sudden urge to buy a slurpee, though...

Kobe Bryant wears the Nike Zoom Kobe 6 'Gradient' to Lakers Media Day

The sneaker world might have moved on to the Nike Zoom Kobe 7, but nobody told Kobe Bryant that.  The guy behind the eponymous shoe was not about to let go of the Nike Zoom Kobe 6 yet, choosing the recently released "Gradient" colorway as his kicks of choice during Lakers Media Day in El Segundo.

Normally, Kobe would continue to wear his signature shoe from the previous season until Christmas Day.  But since the NBA season actually begins on Christmas Day - and the Internet is confused as to what he's going to wear -  thanks to the lockout, this will be one of the last times we will see the Black Mamba in the Kobe 6s.

While the Lakers have a few issues on their plate right now other than what shoes to wear, it's just great to see NBA players back in uniform in an official manner.  Pau Gasol, who may or may not be a Laker by the time you read this, was in high spirits in the Nike Hyperdunk 2011 and new Lakers coach Mike Brown was in the Nike Air Max 2011.

Be sure to come back here all season long as we highlight the best of the swoosh (and Converse too) throughout the 2011-12 NBA season.

Sluggish shouts "These bikes are a hundred pieces," they do not work. The boys gladly multiply chaos, worn on stage and teased the long-haired frontman Daniel: "You are - a woman."

Speaking about the group name that immediately brings to mind the lively canvas Karl Bryullov, Wade adds: "We are not a city, we - a whore, that is, in our understanding of Pompeii - this woman's name. So called precious ancient Roman prostitute: Pompey Sulla "(in fact, was the wife of Pompey Sulla Julius Caesar, with which the monarch had divorced, suspecting her of infidelity - approx. RS). "We - this is a great woman" - vocalist enters, and immediately reported that most musicians besyat jokes about bryullovskoy picture. Ask about when is the last day Pompeya, Is committed to almost every journalist. "In order to enter the way we work, the journalist should be with us on a tour for a week to ride, - said Wade. - This is probably the perfect interview. "

In the near future Pompeya go to the Novosibirsk region, and shortly before our meeting, came back from Vietnam, where the great popularity enjoyed drummer Nairi Simonian. "We walked along the beach, watched the neighborhood, and there was Vietnamese and his girlfriend. Suddenly he jumped up, ran to the Nairi and began aggressively to feel his cheeks, chin, tugging at his mustache. We did not understand what was happening - it turned out that they do not grow a beard, and a sign that, if properly touch a bearded man in his prichindaly, then you will have a lot of money and happiness will accompany you. " "But I sat down to a point - admits Nairi. - I thought I was cursed. " Also, remember Vietnam neturisticheskimi musicians bars, where locals drove the group on mopeds, and beautiful girls (some of them offered for the money).

Disguised in sports clothes, the band members switched to the trendy lately healthy lifestyle. It is clear that in the first place in the hierarchy Pompeya is football, and in addition, will base its own team of ping-pong. Bassist Dennis Agafonov, jogging, and began very carefully monitor the health after the recent alcohol intoxication. "Now even look at alcohol does not want to - says Wade. - We have a theory that he was too athletic. I thought that the iron, and that's had too much alcohol. " Tired of teams and children's photographer comments musicians are placed on a bench in front of the stage. Force is only enough for a few frames. "Now the guitar music is gradually eroding - vocalist on looking at how things are packed sports and bicycles. - And there is an opinion that is now interested in people who are not afraid to mix different direction. " "You fool, now as the Dvina!" - Are heard yelling from behind. Nearby several girls show each other the white shirts, while one of the guys pritopavshih them, pulls down the yellow tights. "Oh, shoot! Can we leave the big guys? "

Nike has a long tradition of cutting-edge innovation. Our rich design heritage is also filled with straight-up classics. Both streams converge in our Holiday 2011 line, which offers the latest in performance features as well as both classic and progressive style.

Our design team's attention to technical detail borders on the obsessive, and it's safe to say they've come up with game-changing ways to improve both board feel and comfort.

The Zoom Air cushioning system is more responsive than a traditional air bag, yet lighter than traditional gel. Several boots also incorporate Warming Blanket Strobel Technology-inspired by the technology used by NASA to insulate spacesuits-in the liner and shell. The Kaiju uses Nike Free technology for revolutionary board feel, and that one boot alone has no less than seven patents pending.

Our drive for technical innovation is aided and abetted by our team. Team riders give suggestions, input, and feedback, all the way from sketch stage to product testing-shredding-on the slopes.

The gear performs, no question. It's also infused with Nike's design heritage, and draws on such classics as the Air Force 1, the Air Max 95, and the Dunk, as well as our more forward-looking designs.

So on the hill or off, all day or all night, our Holiday 2011 line offers the best of our technical development, team R&D, and design, all for one reason: so you can look good and ride better.

UNC-UK notes: Terrence Jones plays 'his best game,' Cal says

After Kentucky defeated North Carolina 73-72 Saturday, All-American Terrence Jones could not suppress a wide smile when a reporter told him of Coach John Calipari's praise. The self-conscious smile stayed in place for several seconds.

"I'm not used to that," Jones said of praise from the ever-demanding Calipari. "I like it when he tells me what's wrong. It makes me play better."

Against North Carolina, Jones did not let poor shooting affect his performance. He made only five of 14 shots (one of five from three-point range). But his busy stat line included seven rebounds, three blocks, two steals and an assist.

"That was his best game of the year," Calipari said, "and he was challenged by (the competition)."

Coincidentally, his mother, Linda, and his 88-year-old grandmother, Pearl Mashia, attended the game.

"Oh, it's wonderful," Jones' grandmother said of the UK-UNC experience. "I couldn't hardly sleep (Friday night) thinking about it."

Jones' family planned to return to Portland, Ore., Sunday. His grandmother has to return to her job. She works as a foster grandparent at an alternative high school.

"They love me," she said of her students. "They don't want me to quit."

Doesn't get easier

Senior Darius Miller suggested UK's next game — Saturday at Indiana — means this season won't get any easier.

"I actually told some of the guys it'll be the toughest environment we'll play in," he said of 5:15 p.m. tipoff in IU's Assembly Center. "It'll be extremely loud. Their team feeds off that."

UK snapped a four-game losing streak at IU with a 90-73 victory two years ago.

'That's a rivalry'

The current UK-UNC contract expired with Saturday's game. The idea of the teams not continuing the series was hard for freshman Michael Kidd-Gilchrist to believe.

"Of course we should keep playing," he said with an incredulous tone. "Of course. That's a rivalry, right there."

Kidd-Gilchrist, who posted career-highs of 17 points and 11 rebounds, suggested Kentucky get top billing if the series continues.

"We're the real blue, though," he said with a smile.

Grand attraction

UK spokesman DeWayne Peevy said he gave passes to 26 NBA officials. That's believed to be a record for a UK game, at least in recent seasons, he said.

That the NBA and its players' union reached a new collective bargaining agreement reduced the request for passes from 58.

Of the thought of trying to fit 58 NBA officials in Rupp Arena, Peevy said, "I was losing sleep."

Peevy also issued 309 media credentials. When UNC came to Rupp Arena two years ago, he issued 308 media credentials.

StepAhead With Nike Grind Makes Canadian Debut Exclusively at The Home Depot

Future Foam, one of the world's largest producers of polyurethane foam and developer of innovative recycled foam products, announced today that its StepAhead super-premium carpet cushion, sold exclusively at The Home Depot, is now available in all Canada stores.

"Due to the overwhelming success of StepAhead in the United States, The Home Depot has introduced this sustainable carpet cushion in Canada, offering an alternative to traditional carpet underlayment for the eco-conscious consumer," said Marc Vitale, Director of Operations for Future Foam.

Nike transports its pre-manufactured shoe scrap to five Future Foam facilities across the United States where it is refined into StepAhead carpet cushion. From January through September of 2011, more than 3 million pounds of Nike Grind material was converted into 60 million square feet of installed StepAhead cushioning in the United States.

"StepAhead with Nike Grind is doing surprisingly well and customers seem to be receptive even though it is not the inexpensive choice," said Doug Romanoff of Romanoff Flooring, a StepAhead installer. "In a difficult economy, we often see people trading down. But with this product they have chosen to step up."

In addition to being CRI green label approved, StepAhead meets low VOC emission criteria for improved indoor air quality. The carpet underlayment is easy to handle and install, and is supported by a lifetime warranty.

Air Jordan 2012 available in multiple configurations, coming February 11

Another leaked image from a catalog featuring the Air Jordan 2012 has made its way online and it has plenty of interesting information, not least of which is confirmation that the shoe is actually going to look like uh... that.

The keyword for the Air Jordan 2012 - much like the Nike Zoom Kobe 7 - is "options."  It's like having your own NIKEiD studio without having to make the trip to 21 Mercer.  This means you have the option to change the look and performance of the shoe on the fly with three Performance Ride midsole systems, Quick (Zoom), Air (Zoom/Air combo) and Explosive (Air Max), and two inner sockliner systems, Low and Light and High and Tight.  All of these rides come in different colorways.  If that's all a bit much to take in, understand that the retail price for all of this is $223, which would make this the highest price point a Jordan signature shoe has ever debuted at.  According to the leaked images, this edition of the Air Jordan 2012 will be available on February 11th.

However, if you're the type that knows their feet and knows what midsole works for them, specialized Air Jordan 2012s will be available come February 23rd, the week of the NBA All-Star Game (assuming it hasn't been moved due to the lockout).  Priced at $180, there will be three different options named after each respective midsole.  What isn't clear is whether you will have the choice later on to switch out and purchase additional midsoles and sockliners.

Cyber Monday Shoppers Struggle to Get that Black Friday Feeling

A black Dell Inspiron laptop was arrested earlier today on charges of infecting other

computers in a neighboring network with viruses as they all struggled to get the upper hand

on Cyber Monday sales, an act which comes at the tail end of a somewhat violent shopping

weekend.

"I was just trying to get my due," said the laptop, a late 2010 model. "How else am I gonna

get that new Nike Air Max?!" It faces charges of releasing a self-propagating virus that

infected over 75 other computers in the same apartment complex. While some see this as an

unwelcome stain on the holiday season, others welcome it as Cyber Monday–a landmark

shopping day cousin to the better-known Black Friday–has been struggling for years to gain

similar recognition and acceptance.

"We're very excited about this," said Cindy Miller, saleswoman and Cyber Monday enthusiast.

Miller and her Cyber Monday Ninjas, a non-profit organization dedicated to inciting

violence around retail sales opportunities, is encouraging Cyber Monday participants to be

a bit more aggressive in their search for deals this holiday. "We're tired of having Black

Friday get all the attention. This virus attack is a great start, but we need fans of Cyber

Monday to be more… creative."

This year's Black Friday violence has included: a woman who pepper sprayed a crowd to get

cheap video games to herself, a family mugged in a parking lot at gun point for their

Christmas shopping, a $2 waffle maker mob riot, and a grandfather knocked to the ground

with a bloody head for allegedly shop lifting.

Many experts say that if Cyber Monday is to step up to the challenge of being as

anticipated as Black Friday it must find a way to incite more violent reactions from its

participants.

"There's not much you can do sitting in front of your computer clicking," says Majorie

Wilcox, a cyber shopper. "I tried to pick a fight with my husband to get that Black Friday

feeling, but he just ignored me. It just wasn't the same."

To compensate for the loss, many retail websites have decided to open bidding web forums

where shoppers can engage in snarky commentary. The more violent and colorful the language,

the cheaper the prices for the participating consumers.

"When I went into my ‘baggy pants are for idiots' tirade I hit the jackpot," says

Target.com shopper Eustus Grant. "The key is not to be too polite about it; you don't have

to mean it. I threw around ‘racist whore' a few times, that's how I got my $5 microwave."

While some critics say Cyber Monday will never live up to the now infamous violence of

Black Friday, many Cyber Monday fans remain optimistic.

"You just have to draw blood," says Cindy Miller, "otherwise you don't feel that same

sensation of fear, shame and jubilation. That's what the holidays are all about."

Michael Jordan WallPapers

Michael Jeffrey Jordan (born February 17, 1963) is a former American professional basketball player, active businessman, and majority owner of the Charlotte Bobcats. His biography on the National Basketball Association (NBA) website states, "By acclamation, Michael Jordan is the greatest basketball player of all time."[1] Jordan was one of the most effectively marketed athletes of his generation and was instrumental in popularizing the NBA around the world in the 1980s and 1990s.

After a standout career at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was a member of the Tar Heels' National Championship, Jordan joined the NBA's Chicago Bulls in 1984. He quickly emerged as a league star, entertaining crowds with his prolific scoring. His leaping ability, illustrated by performing slam dunks from the free throw line in slam dunk contests, earned him the nicknames "Air Jordan" and "His Airness". He also gained a reputation for being one of the best defensive players in basketball.[2] In 1991, he won his first NBA championship with the Bulls, and followed that achievement with titles in 1992 and 1993, securing a "three-peat". Although Jordan abruptly retired from basketball at the beginning of the 1993–94 NBA season to pursue a career in baseball, he rejoined the Bulls in 1995 and led them to three additional championships (1996, 1997, and 1998) as well as an NBA-record 72 regular-season wins in the 1995–96 NBA season. Jordan retired for a second time in 1999, but returned for two more NBA seasons from 2001 to 2003 as a member of the Washington Wizards.

Jordan's individual accolades and accomplishments include five MVP awards, ten All-NBA First Team designations, nine All-Defensive First Team honors, fourteen NBA All-Star Game appearances, three All-Star Game MVP awards, ten scoring titles, three steals titles, six NBA Finals MVP awards, and the 1988 NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award. He holds the NBA records for highest career regular season scoring average (30.12 points per game) and highest career playoff scoring average (33.45 points per game). In 1999, he was named the greatest North American athlete of the 20th century by ESPN, and was second to Babe Ruth on the Associated Press's list of athletes of the century. He was elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame on April 6, 2009 and was inducted on September 11, 2009.[3]

Jordan is also noted for his product endorsements. He fueled the success of Nike's Air Jordan sneakers, which were introduced in 1985 and remain popular today.[4] Jordan also starred in the 1996 feature film Space Jam as himself. He is the majority owner and head of basketball operations for the NBA's Charlotte Bobcats; he recently won a bidding war to buy controlling interest in the team from founding owner Robert L. Johnson.

The Global Reserve Army of Labor and the New Imperialism

In the last few decades there has been an enormous shift in the capitalist economy in the direction of the globalization of production. Much of the increase in manufacturing and even services production that would have formerly taken place in the global North—as well as a portion of the North’s preexisting production—is now being offshored to the global South, where it is feeding the rapid industrialization of a handful of emerging economies. It is customary to see this shift as arising from the economic crisis of 1974–75 and the rise of neoliberalism—or as erupting in the 1980s and after, with the huge increase in the global capitalist labor force resulting from the integration of Eastern Europe and China into the world economy. Yet, the foundations of production on a global scale, we will argue, were laid in the 1950s and 1960s, and were already depicted in the work of Stephen Hymer, the foremost theorist of the multinational corporation, who died in 1974.

For Hymer multinational corporations evolved out of the monopolistic (or oligopolistic) structure of modern industry in which the typical firm was a giant corporation controlling a substantial share of a given market or industry. At a certain point in their development (and in the development of the system) these giant corporations, headquartered in the rich economies, expanded abroad, seeking monopolistic advantages—as well as easier access to raw materials and local markets—through ownership and control of foreign subsidiaries. Such firms internalized within their own structure of corporate planning the international division of labor for their products. “Multinational corporations,” Hymer observed, “are a substitute for the market as a method of organizing international exchange.” They led inexorably to the internationalization of production and the formation of a system of “international oligopoly” that would increasingly dominate the world economy.

In his last article, “International Politics and International Economics: A Radical Approach,” published posthumously in 1975, Hymer focused on the issue of the enormous “latent surplus-population” or reserve army of labor in both the backward areas of the developed economies and in the underdeveloped countries, “which could be broken down to form a constantly flowing surplus population to work at the bottom of the ladder.” Following Marx, Hymer insisted that, “accumulation of capital is, therefore, increase of the proletariat.” The vast “external reserve army” in the third world, supplementing the “internal reserve army” within the developed capitalist countries, constituted the real material basis on which multinational capital was able to internationalize production—creating a continual movement of surplus population into the labor force, and weakening labor globally through a process of “divide and rule.”

A close consideration of Hymer’s work thus serves to clarify the essential point that “the great global job shift”3 from North to South, which has become such a central issue in our time, is not to be seen so much in terms of international competition, deindustrialization, economic crisis, new communication technologies—or even such general phenomena as globalization and financialization—though each of these can be said to have played a part. Rather, this shift is to be viewed as the result primarily of the internationalization of monopoly capital, arising from the global spread of multinational corporations and the concentration and centralization of production on a world scale. Moreover, it is tied to a whole system of polarization of wages (as well as wealth and poverty) on a world scale, which has its basis in the global reserve army of labor.

The international oligopolies that increasingly dominate the world economy avoid genuine price competition, colluding instead in the area of price. For example, Ford and Toyota and the other leading auto firms do not try to undersell each other in the prices of their final products—since to do so would unleash a destructive price war that would reduce the profits of all of these firms. With price competition—the primary form of competition in economic theory—for the most part banned, the two main forms of competition that remain in a mature market or industry are: (1) competition for low cost position, entailing reductions in prime production (labor and raw material) costs, and (2) what is known as “monopolistic competition,” that is, oligopolistic rivalry directed at marketing or the sales effort.

Amar'e Stoudemire gets a job at Foot Locker, promotes Nike Air Max Sweep Thru

Sometimes, desperate times call for desperate measures during the NBA lockout; ask Delonte West about that.  The Knicks' Amar'e Stoudemire is feeling the pinch as well, so he has come to Foot Locker for employment.  At the very least, he knows he will feel welcome at the house of hoops and he won't have to buy new footwear for the job.

In reality, his job interview and new duties are part of a skit he filmed for Foot Locker and Nike to promote the Air Max Sweep Thru, his current sneaker of choice for the swoosh.  Available now at various House of Hoops locations is the PE version of the Sweep Thru, which features a black base and a swirling blue and orange patterns for the strap.

Stoudemire has been working hard to promote the shoe and to speak up for the players during the NBA lockout.  A few weeks ago, he was all doing the morning talk show rounds, along with an appearance for ESPN.  One thing is certain, Stoudemire has never been one to shy away from the spotlight, whether it was in Phoenix or now in New York.  Stoudemire has proven to be the type of superstar that the Knicks need; personable and ready to take responsibility.  New York does not need one that is going to shy away when the pressure hits off the court...

Legend Of Zelda Is 25, Here's What We've Learned

The Legend Of Zelda, Nintendo's second-biggest videogame series behind that rather popular, plump plumber chap, celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. A multi-layered love letter to dungeon scouring, sword wielding and princess rescuing in an ever-widening land called Hyrule, it's an adventure of escapism, wish-fulfilment and a young boy in green garb coming of age.

From the original Legend Of Zelda on the Famicom in 1986 to this year's Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword for the Wii, the adventures of Link and Zelda have been played out over 15 titles (and 18 spinoffs and remakes) of role-playing, puzzle-solving, action-packed fun, with 1998′s epic Ocarina Of Time on the N64 still regularly holding its own in any “greatest game of all time” debates. The franchise has shifted 60m games and saved a couple of Nintendo's consoles along the way, with its high-water marks influencing not only the way we play games, but how we approach life. The Guide's spent the last two decades and more taking notes …
1 Women Rule The World

Link may be the hero, but the game is named after Zelda. Our green-clad, near-mute elf must silently wonder how many feral scorpions he has to slaughter before he gets top-billing over the “legendary” but rarely seen princess. We bet her trailer is bigger, too.
2 No Matter How Hard You Work, Life Remains A Lottery

Slaving away in the fields chopping grass may get you a few coins, and more skilled labour vanquishing an enchanted spider can earn you a nice blade, but you can never account for those times when you happen across an enormous rupee motherlode in the middle of bloody nowhere. Must fight the urge to blow it all on green hats we don't need and have ‘Z E L D A' tattooed on our knuckles.
3 There Was Life In The Name ‘Zelda' After Terrahawks

Once the Thunderbirds-via-Dark Crystal TV oddity had kids crying into their Ready Brek the world over, it seemed the most heinous of baddie's monickers would be consigned to the scrap heap, alongside “Morag” after poisoning Home & Away and “Adolf” after that incident in Poland. Yet Nintendo's magic has reinvented “Zelda” as angel child of the rich and famous. Well, Robin Williams named his daughter after her anyway. No sign of any celeb kids called Link. Yet.
4 They Really Had It Right In The Old Days

While Grand Theft Auto delivers an ultra-modern world full of cars, guns and eastern European stereotypes for us to call our own, Zelda's timelessly magical Hyrule is an agriculturalist's dream of galloping horses, bows and arrows, and mead-drinking, pox-free peasants. Evolution is over-rated.
5 You Are What You Wear

But if only we could breathe underwater just by putting on a blue shirt or make ourselves fireproof by rocking a red one. We're sure Mary Portas is on it.
6 Clunk, Click, Every Trip

Remember to always lock your house when you leave, or some bloke you don't know may come in, rifle through your belongings, steal any cash you've left in a treasure chest and then break your vases. Thanks, Link.
7 Shigeru Miyamoto Isn't A One-Trick Wonder

Super Mario Bros on Nintendo's NES console rocked entertainment's foundation blocks with a well-aimed headbutt in 1985, but surely it would take a while to match its might? No, it turned out, as the very same developer delivered The Legend Of Zelda the very next year on the same format. A gaming god was born (again, Link, that's Miyamoto, not you).
8 Consumerism Is Good

The Zelda series' core principles are work hard, earn cash money and spend it on weapons and potions to better your chance of nabbing the princess. A western world manifesto reimagined in the east.
9 Stealing Is Bad

Sure, it was funny to confuse Mabe the Shopkeeper and pilfer his wares. But you weren't so smug when you returned to be zapped by his retail magic and the “Game Over” screen. A strong moral message and a neat trick for all WHSmiths cashiers to work on.
10 Don't Mess With Chickens

As the recurring Cucco Revenge Squad confirm, it's just not a good idea on any level.
11 Taking Time Out For Yourself Is Reward Within Itself

Well, we could spend days making our way through the perilous cavern dungeon levels to slay Lizalfos and King Dodongo in exchange for Goron's Ruby, but look – some fish! In a pond! Let's catch some! For no reason! For two hours!
12 Handheld Consoles Were The Future

Zelda was the last of Nintendo's Game & Watch single-game portables to be launched before the firm realised it could refine the format for bigger things. The bigger thing? The Game Boy, which changed gaming and has seen Nintendo alone shift 300 million handhelds of various shapes and sizes since.
13 Strong And Silent Types Win The Day

In a game like Fallout 3, if you try and speak to everyone in Megaton they'll look at you like you're some oddball who's been locked away for years in blue pyjamas. In Zelda, wander into town, say nothing, and everyone's tripping over themselves to give you free advice.
14 Gambling Doesn't Pay

The Legend Of Zelda's Money Making Game is a follow-the-lady-like lesson in futility, where your rupee stash can end in bankruptcy through no fault of your own. Kids: consider this a warning.
15 Real Men Choose Monogamy

Usually thought of as a Nintendo-only franchise, Link and co actually popped up on the not-long-for-this-world Philips CD-i for three CD-Rom adventures. The Full Motion Video-focused, dialogue-heavy results had them sprinting back to Ninty's cartridges pleading forgiveness. As the old saying goes: if you've got a steak at home, why mess around with a ropey console with excessive loading times?
16 If It Ain't Broke, That's The Best Time To Fix It

In 2002 Zelda was one of the most loved franchises in gaming, with fans just wanting more of the same, only bigger. But instead of releasing a straight sequel to Ocarina Of Time, Nintendo went back to the drawing board, literally, for The Wind Waker, and redrew the polygon princess's next outing in a radical, cel-shaded cartoon style. Teeth were gnashed, fans on forums were furious – and bucketloads were sold.
17 All A Small Boy Wants Is New Trainers

… or Pegasus Boots, as the Nike Air Max of Hyrule are known. Their go-faster heels have been helping the land's kids escape quicksand and style-based playground bullying since 1991.
18 Unless You Fly Business, Travelling Is A Royal Pain In The Arse

Unlike some games where you can jump to your favourite levels from a handy home screen, there are no shortcuts in Hyrule, just the long, hard slog of the road, be it by foot or on horseback. You'll never sneer at Premium Economy again.
19 Musicians Will Always Be Cool

Give Link an ocarina to play and his street cred increases exponentially. Before you can say “difficult second album”, sales of ocarinas (a small handheld flute-like instrument) in Japan have spiralled and Link is boots-deep in groupies on a 50-day world tour.
20 Videogame Music Is A Serious Business

We weren't joking about the world tour. Chiptune may have had its day, but the games industry has bigger musical fish to fry. Orchestras are the new soundcards and, having opened Nintendo's keynote presentation at gaming expo E3, the guys behind Play! A Video Game Symphony are now bringing a Proms-like take on Zelda's sweeping scores to London's Hammersmith Apollo this month.
21 Experience Is Everything

Want better health, faster moves and stronger weapon attacks? Only after you've put in the hours, earned the right and levelled up, intoned Zelda II: Adventure Of Link. Words that have stuck with us through the next 20 years of playing RPGs and being stuck in depressing office jobs. Our time will come …
22 Get Milk

Link's dairy intake comes from Lon Lon Ranch, whose milk can improve health, just like the real thing – but also heal wounds. So either it's laced with something more medicinal, like Anthony Burgess's Moloko, or it's been passed by a lost herd of magical cows. In Hyrule, we wouldn't rule either out.
23 Substance Abuse Can Be Beneficial

So many coloured potion vials to drink, so little time.
24 The Wii Has Another Christmas Left In It

With new console Wii U on the horizon, and Microsoft's Kinect stealing gaming's motion-sensing thunder, it's easy to forget there are still games being made for Nintendo's previously pioneering platform. That was, until they announced a new Zelda, Skyward Sword, out this November. Cue thousands of men “mis-placing” their partner's Wii Fit mat and re-learning how to use a Wiimote. (Wii can't wait.)
25 Chivalry Is Not Dead

Well, the entire series is an ode to a young boy rescuing a young girl, no matter what giant monsters and evil curses stand in his way, after all. The final scene of the last ever Zelda should just be Link holding a door open. To which Zelda turns and asks, “Who are you again?”.

Amar'e Stoudemire Opens Up About Upcoming Fashion Line At Activision Launch!

This weekend, Guastavinos in NYC was transformed into the magical world of Skylands.

The venue was complete with larger than life action figures and larger than life Knicks player, Amar'e Stoudemire, to celebrate the launch of Skylanders Spyro's Adventure — the first video game that allows action figures to come to life when placed on a gaming portal.

NY FASHION WEEK: Amar'e Stoudemire Debuts Womenswear With Rachel Roy, Confirms Line For Men

Protruding from a sea of pajama-clad children, video games and colossal action figures, the 6 foot 10 baller celebrated the launch of the game alongside lucky members of the Boys and Girls Club.

Glitter tattoos, face painting, scavenger hunts and even Stoudemire's presence could not divert the little ones' attention from the multiple Skylander playing stations for Wii, Nintendo DS and Play station.

NY FASHION WEEK: Amar'e Stoudemire Debuts Womenswear With Rachel Roy, Confirms Line For Men

While the guests of honors under 5 feet tall were leveling up in video games, GlobalGrind caught up with the host of the night, on our tippy toes, as he walked the blue carpet. Stoudemire had his share to say about fashion, his new kicks and the rumor that he is starting his own fashion line.

GlobalGrind: Tell us a little about the event tonight and why you are here.

Amar'e Stoudemire: I am here to support the youth! The Boys and Girls Club is going to be here, so that is my main reason for coming out.

We in the style section of GlobalGrind want to know about your collaboration with Rachel Roy. How were you involved?

It was great. Rachel and I collaborated on this women's collection. We came up with some sketches and I agreed to what I thought women would look good in as far as courtside apparel. It was very sexy, very sleek and it turned out great.

Were you involved hands-on?

I was totally involved in the collaboration, hands on from start to finish!

We heard some rumors that you are thinking about starting your own fashion line. Is there any truth to that?

There is truth to it. There is something coming soon, something we are working on, but I can't give you too many details right now. All I can say is that it is coming soon.

What should we be looking forward to seeing from this line?

Stay tuned.

How long should we stay tuned for? Is it going to be months, years?

It is going to be months.

We have been seeing you at a lot of fashion shows and events. If the NBA wasn't on lockout right now, would you still be as involved in fashion as you are?

Yes, I still would be. That's for sure.

How would you balance your time if you were in-season to make time for fashion?

Most important to me is basketball. That is my career, that is my job, so obviously I would take that a lot more seriously than anything else, but fashion is something that I do for fun and it just happened to grow on me.

You made it clear that basketball is number one, so aside from allotting your time to dabble in fashion, what other effects has the lockout had on your personal life? Has it changed how you spend your time?

I spend more time in the classroom. I attend school now, I study more and I travel more and I am doing a lot of acting now. I have a lot more time for acting now, a lot more than I normally would and I have a children's book coming out.

What are you studying?

I am studying history. My interest in history sparked when I was a kid.

You said you are launching a children's book?

Yes. The children's book is coming out soon, it's from Scholastic and it is called Home Court: Standing Tall and Talented and it is going to be a cool book.

What else can we look forward to seeing from you?

The Nike Air Max Sweep Thru shoes just released on October 1st. I was involved in production but it's not 100 percent me, it is mostly Nike and then I added my input in and just made it a performance and lifestyle shoe.

Is this going to be your go-to shoe that you wear with everything? Tuxedos and all?

Everything!

Suarez denied any abuse and fought to clear his na

Patrice Evra was left isolated on Sunday night after accusing Liverpool striker Luis Suarez of racially abusing him.
Following a tempestuous Barclays Premier League game on Saturday lunchtime, Manchester United defender Evra launched a Nike Air Max Kids furious attack on Uruguayan Suarez forcing an FA investigation, which will continue on Sunday.

Controversial clash: Luis Suarez (left) and Patrice Evra
However, after the claims and the ensuing furore:
Suarez denied any abuse and fought to clear his name.
Sky Sports found no Nike Air Max Skyline footage that supports Evra.
It emerged that referee Andre Marriner did not hear any of the alleged 10 racist comments.
While supporting their player, United are leaving the matter to the France left back.

Isolated: Manchester United are leaving the matter to Evra
Suarez used his official Twitter page to issue a statement on Sunday, in which he expressed his bitter disappointment. He categorically denies abusing Evra and the 24-year-old also has the unconditional Moncler Jackets Women backing of Liverpool.
He said: ‘I’m upset by the accusations of racism. I can only say that I have always respected and respect everybody. We are all the same. I go to the field with the maximum illusion of a little child who enjoys what he does, not to create conflicts.’
A Liverpool spokesman added: ‘Luis is adamant that he has not used language of that nature and the club is totally supportive of the player.’
Marriner was informed of the alleged incident after the game and included Evra’s claim in his match report.

Full support: Liverpool are backing Suarez
The FA will now request to meet the Frenchman. Under their guidelines, Evra has to be the first man interviewed. If he maintains the allegations, Suarez will also have to explain himself. There is no time frame on how long the FA inquiry will take but it will not be rushed given the extreme sensitivity of the case.
The Liverpool striker found himself at the centre of a storm when Evra claimed in an interview with a French television station that Suarez had used the same racial insult ‘more than 10 times’ during the 1-1 draw at Anfield. It is understood the alleged word was ‘n*****’.
An FA spokesman said: ‘Referee Andre Marriner was made aware of the allegation at the end of the fixture and has subsequently reported this to the FA. The FA will now be making inquiries into the matter.’Had Marriner heard any abusive language from Suarez, he would have shown a red card.
United will back Evra with whatever action he decides to pursue. But one anticipated problem is he did not complain about it during the game, which means he would need support from independent witnesses.
Evra, who walked out of Anfield on his own and was the last United player to board the team coach, told Canal Plus: ‘I was very upset. In 2011 you can’t say things like this. He knows what he said, the ref knows it. It will come out.

PHOENIX, N.Y. — It was just another routine goal-line play in a high school football game on a Friday night. With a playoff berth on the line, Homer High School was nursing a 7-6 lead on its home field with about six minutes to play in the third quarter against a conference rival, the Phoenix Firebirds of John C. Birdlebough High School. On third down from the Phoenix 6, Homer ran a dive up the middle and was stopped short.

Nike Presents the New Vac Tech Collection of Sneakers

Nike has upgraded its classic Air Force 1, Dunk, and Air Max 90 shoes with the new Vac Tech technology, which provides sneakers with thermo-regulation and makes them that stitch-free.

Last month the No.1 USA sportswear brand released the Marty McFly’s sneakers and the Vac Tech collection is no less futuristic due to its molding and simple colors. Materials used are leather—both glossy and regular and suede of different colors. The models’ colors range from tonal to slight contrasts along the sole. One pair even mixes in leather plus wool on the upper along with the white Dunk midsole, says Sneaker News. A seamless upper construction comes with matching shoelaces and either black or white soles.

The Vac Tech technology is a thermo-molding technique, which uses vacuum compression method that allows the shoe parts to be held together without any noticeable seams or stitching. It turns sneakers into sculptures of your feet, though it retains the familiar silhouette of the original design. The US release dates and prices are not known yet.

Recently, Nike has also released its snowboarding boot Vapen, accompanied by a series of video episodes, the Vapen Sessions.

Amare Stoudemire talks lockout, fashion, shoes

Amare Stoudemire always looks fresh with a laid-back vibe.

On Tuesday, he stopped by ESPN's offices to talk about his new red-on-white Nike Air Max Sweep Thru sneakers.

Of course, the New York Knicks forward was pretty dapper in his Calvin Klein ensemble of a houndstooth-detailed tie paired with a black-and-white checkered shirt with tailored stone gray pants.

"Calvin Klein kind of adopted me," said Stoudemire, who plays forward for the New York Knicks. "I'm going to end up like George Clooney one of these days."

For the 6-foot-10, 240-pound Stoudemire, it's always been about the fashion.

From his growing up days in Orlando -- "I didn't have much style because I was 17 and had no money."

To Phoenix, his first NBA home -- "People are so laid back there that I could wear anything I wanted."

To today in New York. "It's the fashion capital of the world. If you have some fashion sense, you'll stand out."

But Stoudemire doesn't want to be a runway model.

"I prefer to be the one behind the scenes designing," he said.

And he's doing just that, working with Rachel Roy on a women's fashion line called "Courtside Clothing."

And he's not done, putting the finishing touches on a more upscale men's line.

"I can't go into too much details but it's going to be hot," Stoudemire said.

Back to the shoes, the reason for the visit to ESPN: How many pairs do you have?

"I own about 700 pairs."

That's some style.

Stoudemire also took some time out of his busy schedule at ESPN to get a little basketball in, dunking on Blake Griffin.

Flight Forum

It's a rainy Tuesday in Portland, OR, but the typically wet northwestern weather hasn't dampened mine or the rest of the assembled media's spirits much. Besides, since we're only outside for the 15 seconds that it takes to stroll from our shuttle bus to the Tiger Woods Center on Nike's campus, so we barely get dusted with drops.

The Tiger Woods Center isn't special in and of itself—an otherwise airy and average lobby is decorated with a plethora of Tiger paraphernalia—but there's a certain electric buzz reverberating around our group, bouncing from person to person, camera click to camera click. It's always exciting to spend time on Nike's beautiful and sprawling campus. It's even more exciting when you're there to take part in Jordan Brand's highly anticipated Flight Forum.

Led by a slew of highly professional PR people, we make our way from the ante room down a short flight of stairs, turn down a hallway and stop in front of tablecloth-covered tables and an imposing set of closed double doors.  At this point, someone from Jordan Brand welcomes us and asks for our attention. He tells us to pick up a flash drive off the table and to divide into three smaller groups. We're about to open the closed doors and enter the inner sanctum of the Flight Forum. He asks us if we're ready.

The door opens into a dark corridor that's lit only by flickering projections on one of the walls. Video of Carmelo Anthony bullying forwards, Chris Paul crossing guards and Dwyane Wade Eurostepping forwards, guards and centers provide all the light in the otherwise blackened room.

As the video plays in a continuous—and mesmerizing—loop, someone from Jordan Brand begins talking about the Brand's upcoming holiday sneaker releases. He starts off by telling us that this season's campaign will focus around the slogan, Fly Around, Fly Over, Fly Through. He explains that Michael Jordan changed—or, to an extent, introduced—flight to the game of basketball. He also says that Anthony, Paul and Wade each specialize in one of the aforementioned types of flight.

To prove that Michael Jordan mastered flight—as if he needs to do that—the Brand employee fires up a never-before-seen MJ montage. With Lenny Kravitz's hit of yesteryear “Fly Away” providing the only sound, some of Jordan's more- and less-famous plays dance across the wall. There he is flying around Rex Chapman. There he is flying over Patrick Ewing. There he is flying through Bob Sura. As the highlight reel comes to an end, everyone seems to exhale. Unconsciously, we all had been holding our breath; Jordan can have that kind of effect

As the screen resumes playing clips of Anthony/Paul/Wade, we're ushered down the corridor, until it gently opens into a cavernous room.  Normally an empty, unused space, the room is devoid of decoration and color. In fact, the only light in the otherwise liquid black space emanates from three separate silos containing…kicks. It looks like Jordan Brand is about to debut some new shoes to participants of the Flight Forum.

As it turns out, each silo represents one of the three ways of flight (over, around, through). The first silo we're shown is the one furthest to the left. The outer-entrance boasts a life-sized picture of Chris Paul that reads FLY AROUND. Around the perimeter stand varying colorways of two new sneakers: Chris Paul's signature, CP3.V, and the CP 2'Quick. Andre Doxey, a creative director at Jordan Brand, stands in the middle of it all, ready to talk us through it all.

In the midst of a really riveting—no, really—presentation about the CP3.V and 2'Quick's specs, Doxey points out a few rather interesting things: (a) after studying how Chris Paul uses his big toe to push off on his first step, the .V contains strategically placed Podulun technology that maximizes the energy gained from his push; (b) To help with pivots and cuts—moves that are rooted in your midfoot—the 2'Quick features a raised traction pattern in the middle of the outsole.

By the time Doxey was through, I was sold on both pairs of Fly Around Jordans.

Next we head to the Fly Through silo. A large image of Carmelo Anthony and the text FLY THROUGH greets us. Inside are a few gleaming pairs of Anthony's new signature Melo M8s. Alongside it sit pairs of the Big Ups and Air Jordan 2011 A Flights. This silo is obviously an ode to the power game. As we peruse the different colorways—New Yorkers are going to love the M8's orange-and-blue colors—a shaved-headed Justin Taylor emerges out of the shadows. As the lead designer of the M8, Taylor is intimately familiar with Melo's new signature, and he drops some insights on us. The use of Flywire on the upper and exposed Zoom and Max Air units in the forefoot and heel are some of the focal points of his presentation.

Dwyane Wade greets us at the third and final silo. Well, actually, a poster of Wade with the words FLY OVER. Mark Smith, the legendary designer responsible for last season's Jordan Fly Wade, tells us to step in. He wants to show us the Fly Wade 2s and the Fly 23s. Built to support Wade's unique movements, the Fly Wade 2 boasts a Hyperfuse upper and full-length Lunarlon midsole. Additionally, unlike the Wade 1, the tongue flaunts Wade's new Jordan logo. Though it is designed to look like the letter W, the logo doubles as an M (for the Miami Heat), an E (for the East Coast) and a 3 (for Wade's number).

When Smith finishes, we wander around, studying the different silos and shoes. After a hefty helping of toying around with the kicks, myself and the rest of the members of the Flight Forum head to lunch. We're tired but very energized by what we've seen from Jordan.

Air Jordan 2012 Coming In February

Dream Sole has an image that they claim is the 2012 edition of the Air Jordan line.  As with all sneakers pre-release, it's hard to tell if these are the sneakers we will see at retail or if they are just sample productions.

A sample leaked back in June that also claimed to be the Air Jordan 2012 and while the general look of the sneaker appears to be the same, Flywire seems to have been added and the Max Air unit is now hidden from plain sight.

Regardless of whether or not these are the actual shoes or if something close to this does make it to stores next year, this might be an off year for the Jordan Brand's flagship shoe.  The best (and even the worst) Air Jordans have always been the ones that make you do a double take, regardless of their actual function, but the rumored 2012 version does nothing to stand out.  It looks more like a secondary release that's not even on par with the trio of signature shoes Jordan Brand introduced this past week for Carmelo Anthony, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Paul.

Arizona State Museum Creates Path to Healthy Living

The exhibition, which begins Oct. 15 and will run through Jan. 7 and includes an open-to-

the-public, free 5K walk/run on Nov. 12.

Arizona State Museum presents "Through the Eyes of the Eagle: Illustrating Healthy Living,"

a family-friendly exhibit inspired by a children's book series of the same name to draw

attention to the staggering statistics on obesity and the associated health complications.

The exhibit, which will run Oct. 15 through Jan. 7, raises awareness about type 2 diabetes

prevention from a Native American perspective. History, culture and health are explored

through objects, photographs, artwork, storytelling and video

Arizona State Museum plans a healthy celebration timed to coincide with the theme of the

exhibition on Nov. 12 on the front lawn of the museum. The event includes a free 5K fun

walk/run with registration at 8 a.m., as well as a farmer's market, multicultural

performances and nutritional, dance and athletic clinics taking place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Arizona State Museum worked collaboratively with many units at the University of Arizona and

within the city and county to enhance the traveling exhibition and to raise obesity

awareness with local relevance.

Nationally, nearly one-third of adults and children are overweight or obese – a rate that

is nearly double among American Indians/Alaskan Natives.

In Arizona, the numbers also are dramatic, with the U.S. Surgeon General reporting that the

O'odham of southern Arizona have one of the highest rates of diabetes in the world. In

Arizona's overall population, almost one quarter of are obese, and nearly 18 percent of

children in the state are as well.

"Collaborations have brought a richness to what we are offering in this exhibit, and I hope

will draw a diverse visitorship to reflect on what we as individuals and as a community can

do to address the critical issue of obesity and the resulting health complications, such as

diabetes," said Lisa Falk, Arizona State Museum director of education and coordinator of the

exhibit's many facets.

The series was developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Division of

Diabetes Translation, in collaboration with the Tribal Leaders Diabetes Committee and the

Indian Health Service.

Written by Georgia Perez (who served as a Community Health Representative for 19 years in

Nambe Pueblo, New Mexico) and illustrated by Patrick Rolo (Bad River Band of Ojibwe,

Wisconsin) and Lisa A. Fifield (Oneida Tribe of Wisconsin, Black Bear Clan), the series

includes four books: "Through the Eyes of the Eagle," "Knees Lifted High," "Plate Full of

Color" and "Tricky Treats."

The books' original watercolor illustrations are part of a national, traveling exhibit.

Arizona State Museum, a center for community engagement, has enhanced the exhibit with

modern and historical features including:

    * An original comic book, "It's Up 2 You!," co-created by Ryan Huna Smith

(Chemehuevi/Navajo) and Lisa Falk, the museum's director of education. The book challenges

youth about the temptations of fast food and video gaming and engages them about the

benefits of physical activity and healthy eating in a fun and meaningful way.
    * Prehistoric, historic and contemporary objects, in addition to photographs, to

illustrate the diet of Sonoran Desert people over 13,000 years – from Paleoindian to

Hohokam to Tohono O'odham. A section curated by Terrol Dew Johnson (Tohono O'odham) of

Tohono O'odham Community Action uses photographs, videos and objects to share current

efforts to revitalize traditional food practices within his community.
    * Footwear spanning 1,400 years illustrate indigenous traditions of movement and

exercise: prehistoric sandals, historic beaded moccasins and running sandals made from

tires, contemporary skateboard shoes and Nike's ® N7 Air Native trainers are among those

included.
    * Videos and hands-on activities, including a Nintendo ® Wii ® skateboard game, round

out the visitor experience.

In addition to being a major feature of the exhibit at the museum, two of the books are on

display as part of the World of Words Library at the UA College of Education.

Hit the 90's

Nog1 keer die Nike Air max uit de kast, want “we like to move it, move it”.

“Your dreams will come alive” met hun stortvloed aan eurodance deuntjes.

Don't Shoot my Babies Even Once

As if life wasn't difficult enough already for London families torn apart by the recent riots, having to live as they do on bags of black market Tesco Value rice and fire damaged Nike Air Max, now Britney Spears has arrived in town with her entourage of bastards, determined to crush whatever remains of our valiant British spirit under the heel of her brutish American stilettos.

Courting controversy like a Maris Piper courts a good mashing, Spears has been ticked off by Hackney Council, a council still reeling from the loss of its most profitable Chicken Cottage franchisee, after filming a scene in the area for her new video. A scene in which she holds a gun*. Councilor Ian Rathbone spoke to London Tonight about the issue:

"I think she should apologize and make a sizeable donation to a Hackney charity that deals with young people, in compensation for the rudeness and damage that she's done to our community,"

"It is only a music video, but it's images like this, with pop stars glamourising gangs, which means that some young people ... get drawn in,"

Hackney MP Diane Abbott, added:

    "Britney should really know better."

In a statement to London Tonight the council said:

"In this case we did not agree that a replica gun could be used at Stoke Newington Town Hall and we are disappointed. We will be raising this matter with the production company."

Not Stokey. Not good old Stokey, Britney. Have you no shame? This isn't your house you know, you can't just carry around guns willy nilly, waving them at children. Your ex-bodyguard certainly wouldn't have stood for this kind of behaviour.

New Balance 851 (M)

Likes: The 851 represents a strong shift for New Balance, which has created an extremely lightweight performance shoe built low to the ground. Weighing in at at sleek 11.2 oz., this is the lightest shoe we tested in 2011. In bringing the shoe lower to the ground, New Balance has not sacrificed stability. For fast players who place a premium on changing directions quickly, stepping into the 851 after wearing heavier shoes that are built higher off the ground may well feel like trading in an SUV in favor of a sports car capable of cornering with more sharpness and authority.

New Balance has a well-earned reputation for creating performance shoes that place a premium on fit and durability. The new 851 retains those key qualities while offering a more cutting-edge cosmetic—especially in the striking black-and-yellow men's 851—and creating a shoe that is nearly three ounces lighter than the brand's spring entry, the 1187. The synthetic mesh upper with internal support system contributes to both to the 851's light weight and breathability, while the Ndure cage supplies reinforcement in toe drag areas while evoking a stylistic similarity to the Nike Air Max Courtballistec 3.3. This is a flexible shoe that can be worn right out of the box. Male wear testers gave the 851 high marks for break-in time (9.4), weight (9.1), ventilation (9) and stability (8.7). In keeping with New Balance's commitment of offering various widths, the 851 is available in D and 2E widths.

Dislikes: The 851 incorporates thinner EVA and is so strikingly light and low to the ground that some wear-testers questioned if the shoes' durability and comfort will hold up over the course of time. (New Balance backs the 851 with a 12-month outsole durability guarantee—the longest of any shoe we tested this year.) Some wear testers reported the 851's feather weight comes at the expense of the comfort that is a New Balance trademark, though the shoe scored an 8.8 in the cushioning category. The herringbone outsole offers a slightly simpler traction pattern than the more expensive 1187. If you're a big, strong, physical player with a tendency to punish shoes, you may want to try the heavier 1187.

Bottom Line: In our past reviews of New Balance shoes, wear testers have praised their performance and fit, though some pointed to the sometimes bland cosmetics and bulky weight as two areas the brand could improve. New Balance has listened to consumers in constructing a feather-light shoe that provides a stable ride in a more aggressive, eye-catching cosmetic. It will work best for quick players who crave maneuverability, and the shoe provides excellent value at a reasonable price. The 851 is a winner.

Nike Officially Debuts the LeBron 9 Sneaker

Nike has officially introduced pictures of LeBron James' ninth signature shoe, the “LEBRON 9,” which hits stores in October. The shoes will sell for $170 bucks a pop, and according to USA Today, they're the highest price for any basketball sneakers sold at Nike's online store, with the exception of a pair of Jordan shoes that sell for $175.

Would you buy LeBron's shoes over Jordans!? Take a look at the new offerings and see if they're worth it.

The LBJ 9′s come in the primary black/red/white color scheme and have a Max Air 180 unit in the heel with a Zoom unit in the forefoot. The shoe is the first to combine Flywire technology and Hyperfuse construction to create a nearly seamless, lightweight upper that's still supportive.

There will also be an exclusive edition that comes in a blue and orange color scheme. A Chinese symbol of "fire" on the heel tab and a "Lion" symbol will be on the tongue of the shoe.

If you're not feeling either of the colors, for the first time ever, “The King's”  signature shoe will also be available on NIKEiD, with full design features to customize your own pair.

The sneakers will drop in China first on October 1, and then hit the US in the limited edition "Cannon" color scheme October 15. The primary black/red/white color scheme will arrive in US stores October 25.

Would you sport these kicks? Sound off in our comments!

Kicks: Nike Officially Introduces LeBron 9

Snippets of LeBron 9 colorways have hit the interwebs over the last couple weeks, and today Nike has officially introduced Bron's signature model in the red and black of his Miami Heat. The LeBron 9 incorporates the newest technology from Nike with everything that LeBron wants in a shoe—in his own words, “speed, lightweight and style.” More from Nike:

Nike defines basketball performance innovation with the introduction of LeBron James' ninth signature shoe. A reflection of LeBron's versatile style of play, the LEBRON 9 integrates Flywire technology and Hyperfuse construction – a Nike Basketball first – in the upper for superior support, along with a combination of Max Air 180 and a Nike Zoom unit for comfortable and responsive cushioning.

“From the very beginning of the design process for the LEBRON 9 we wanted to break the mold with a shoe that maximized the strengths of a triple threat player like LeBron,” said Jason Petrie, Nike Basketball Designer. “LeBron brings a rare combination of speed, agility and force to the game and my goal is to outfit him in a shoe that lets him do what he does best while maximizing our superior innovations.”

Designed with specific insights from LeBron James himself, the shoe is the first to combine Flywire technology and Hyperfuse construction. Built for breathability and durability, the Hyperfuse construction is a composite of three different layers of material that are fused together to create a nearly seamless, one piece upper that sheds considerable weight without sacrificing protection. A midfoot harness that wraps around the foot incorporates Flywire 3.0 technology for added strength and lock down support. This lightweight upper mimics the speed and strength symbolic of LeBron's game.

The finely-tuned midsole provides a unique hybrid cushioning system. By combining Max Air 180 in the heel for absorption on impact with a Nike Zoom unit in the forefoot for a springy response, a player is protected on impact where they need it most. A composite shank plate provides torsional rigidity and support while reducing midsole weight.

Additional elements such as engineered textile wings, Nike Pro Combat inspired padding in the inner collar, asymmetrical lacing, heel pull tab, outrigger for lateral stability, and flex grooves in the outsole bring LeBron's ninth signature shoe to unrivaled levels of performance. Signature style including LeBron's new logo, his signature on the ventilated tongue, and a special outsole pattern are special nods to LeBron.

That's right, Flywire and Hyperfuse technologies together, on one shoe. Evidently, LeBron knows a thing or two about fusing two of the game's best. And in the case of his newest on-court kicks, the emphasis on technology avoids being overbearing. Instead of overshadowing a slick look, it enhances it, a refreshingly subtle combination of performance and style. Hear LBJ and company explain the sneaks below:

The King's latest Nike namesake is set to hit retail stores in the United States on October 15 in a limited “Cannon” colorway, before a handful of college-inspired editions—like Miami, perhaps—and the primary black, red and white version (above) drops on October 25. Also, for the first time ever, LeBron's signature shoe will also be available on NIKEiD, with full design features to customize your own version of the 9s.

LEGO Nike Air Mags: For the Nerd on a Budget

So, while you may not have the cash on hand to bid on one of the “real” Nike Air Mags for sale on eBay, odds are you’ve got some old LEGOs lying around. If that’s the case, you should make like Flickr user Orion Pax and cobble together a future shoe of your very own (complete with lighting) from the famed plastic building toy. Of course, for the full effect, you’d have to build the shoe and donate to Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. Compared to the going price of an actual Air Mag, you’d still be coming out ahead.
